Things I can't stop thinking about pt. 7
The Woman Who Was Kept on a Shelf, Roar Episode 3
This is a new Apple TV+ show, and I’ll admit; I’ve only seen this episode, but I’m obsessed with it for one very specific reason: Betty. Motherfucking. Gilpin. She’s one of the most astonishing actresses ever and I think she should be in absolutely everything until the end of time. Her performance is small and then massive. She’s an actress and a star, to borrow from the Las Culturistas gods. Watch the episode. Then watch all of Glow. Then write to whoever you know and ensure that Betty Gilpin is given the work she deserves.
50s Baseball SNL
Natasha Lyonne is fucking hilarious in this and I believe that, while it’s not in my top twenty of SNL sketches, it’s pretty great. Watch it here
Why You Will Marry The Wrong Person Alain de Botton
I’ve always loved Alain de Botton’s books; I’ve read and re-read them more times than I can count, but I never thought to look him up, so when Gaby sent me this video I watched, enraptured, and thought about how much the way this man spoke reminded me of Alain. Turns out I’m an idiot, but I think we all knew that. This talk is beautiful and funny and has stuck with me ever since I saw it the first time. Watch it here
This piece on Kim Kardashian wearing Marilyn Monroe’s dress to the Met Gala
Emmy Porter beautifully writes about, in her words, “Marilyn, Kim, sex, abortion, and the commodification of women” in this piece. I’d say something about it, but really I think the thing to do is to read her piece and discuss it with someone you know.
Merrit Wever’s Emmy Acceptance Speech
This is one of the loveliest things ever. Start the video at 1:42 to skip to her bit.
Don Rickles roasting Martin Scorcese at his AFI dinner
Not much to say about this except that it brings me so much joy. Also, my dad has been calling me “Donna Rickles” for years, so of course my guy Don wound up on one of the many editions of this list.
